Construction

Puffy Mattress

puffy-construction

The Puffy mattress has a pretty simple construction, using only two layers of foam and a resilient soft cover. Both the foam layers combine to form a highly firm and sturdy 10-inch mattress that provides most for back and side sleepers.

Casper Mattress

Casper Mattress Construction

Casper’s layers are four in number and extraordinary in performance. Their mattress is purely memory foam and is more focused towards better breathability and user comfort. The most auspicious part is that the Casper uses Zoned Transition Support, which is perfect for users with back pain.

Foam Layers

Puffy Mattress

The Puffy Mattress is an optimal 10 inches high and makes use of only two premium-quality memory foam layers. Some models may even have a polyfoam base layer.

Top Layer is a 3-inch layer of specialized memory foam dubbed “Patent Pending Cooling Cloud Foam.” At the least, it is similar to gel-infused memory foam, which uses special Cloud Gel to wick away heat and moisture from the center and direct it towards the edges.

Did You Know – Waking up regularly in the night is pretty standard, up to two to three times per night? However, if you wake up more than thrice, it’s time to get a new mattress.

Bottom Layer is a 7-inch polyurethane foam layer which has a PCF of 1.5. It works to provide essential support and firmness to the model. This layer has been specialized by Variable Pressure Foaming to lift up the user.

Casper Mattress

Top Layer is made of open-cell memory foam, which is lesser compact than ordinary memory foam and feels soft, delicate, and highly cool. The primary purpose of the layer is to provide breathability to the user.

Second Layer is a layer of compact, dense memory foam designed to uphold the user and maintain firmness. The firmness of this layer is 5.5 (medium).

Why Memory Foam? Statistics say that only 63% of innerspring owners are happy with their product, as compared to the 80% of memory foam users.

The third Layer uses Zoned Support. It creates a softer mattress underneath your shoulders and a harder mattress under your pelvis. The Casper uses this technology to keep users safe from improper spine alignment and back pain, which is the problem with many sleepers.

Base Layer is made of regular support foam that is capable of holding up the mattress.

Covers

Puffy Mattress

PUFFY MATTRESS VS CASPER MATTRESS

Not much is known about the Puffy mattress’s cover, except that it is “cool and breathable.” However, we find that the Puffy Company didn’t apply much effort to their cover, as their top layer is supposed to be the leading provider of coolness. But with the top layer in action, most users don’t feel a thing.

Casper Mattress

PUFFY MATTRESS VS CASPER MATTRESS

The Casper uses a very soft and thin cover to enhance the temperature of the sleeper greatly. Not only that, but their cover is zip-off, meaning it can easily be removed and cleaned separately. It is a much-needed upgrade, as mattresses tend to get dirty often.

If we had to compare the covers side-by-side, we’d say that the Casper is better concerning the cover itself. However, the foam layers of both the mattresses make up for any lack in the covers, so this won’t affect sleep quality much.

Firmness, Comfort & Support

The firmness of both the Puffy and the Casper is close to medium firm, although Casper’s is closer to medium.

Puffy Mattress

The Puffy Mattress has a firmness of 6.5 and a thickness or height of 10 inches. Overall, the mattress feels both soft and firm, although it is firmer than it is soft. We find that the foam is an excellent conduit for transferring heat and moisture, and feels more comfortable and precise than other brands out there.

Fact: Changing your mattress after every eight years is crucial to a good night’s sleep.

The primary cause of the firmness is the top layer. The top layer uses a very strong and lofty viscoelastic polyfoam which is excellent at keeping the user content. The bottom layer mainly has to do with support and providing a strong base, and although it is firm, its firmness can’t be felt through the foam. It is an excellent pro for the users who buy the Puffy mattress, as this impairs any uneven softness and ensures proper support while also maintaining the right superficial firmness.

We recommend this firmness for back and side sleepers, although it may work better for back sleepers. Medium firm options are the best for users who want to correct spinal alignment.

Casper Mattress

The Casper has a firmness of 5.5, which is closer to medium than medium firm. However, this uniqueness can be seen as a downside, as many users are accustomed to the medium firm, and a softer rating doesn’t necessarily work for all of them.

Should I Clean My Mattress? Even with a mattress topper, your mattress is still pretty much vulnerable to dust and mold. Clean it out once a month.

There are multiple layers in the Casper mattress that provide this firmness. The open cell memory foam has a dilute effect on the overall firmness, followed by the two layers of memory foam. The zoned layer has two different firmnesses: a softer one under the shoulders and a harder one under the pelvis. It is excellent for users who want to correct any back pains.

This mattress is better for side sleepers than back sleepers, although both can take benefit from it in one way or another. Not recommended for stomach sleepers.

Should You Buy A Puffy Or A Casper Mattress?

Both the mattresses are unique in their aspects, but we find that one may be more suited for you than the other.

In general, both mattresses have:

  • Free shipping and returns.
  • The 100-night trial for free returns and money-back guarantee.
  • Soft and airy cover.
  • Both use the most premium types of memory foam mattress.
  • CertiPUR-US certification.
  • It works with multiple surfaces.
  • Best for back and side sleepers.
  • Extreme comfort and excellent motion isolation.

With that being said, we did notice a few differences between the Puffy and the Casper. Overall, we will assume that no mattress is better than the other. But the compatibility of the mattress highly depends upon the requirements of the user.

So you can opt for the mattress which suits all of your needs. But there is no single best.

You should opt for a Puffy mattress if you

Prefer a lifetime warranty: The Puffy mattress is just one step ahead of the Casper concerning the warranty. Puffy’s warranty lasts a lifetime and features free-of-charge repairing.

Like the extra cool during the night: The main comfort layer of the Puffy mattress uses a Cloud Gel formula, which keeps the user exceptionally cool and ventilated through the night. It is an excellent option for the users who want mattresses more adept at comfort than support.

You should opt for a Casper mattress if you

Want to zone support: The Casper mattress uses a zoned support system, which makes the bed softer under the shoulders and harder under the pelvis.

Need an easy-to-remove and clean cover: The cover of the Casper is a simple zip-off cotton cover. It makes it easier to remove, replace, wash, dry, and zip back into place.

Require financing with 0% APR: At Casper, there is no such thing as interest. They finance your mattress in a single payment, or in monthly payments with 0% APR.

Wrap Up

Picking a mattress is as hard as counting hairs, but it’s not that difficult after all. There are plenty of aspects including price, the warranty, comfort, requirements, and the different layers of foam or coil. So when you’re done evaluating every one of those aspects, you’ll find it easier to come to your conclusion.

We don’t believe that either mattress is better than the other. Both the brands have had some tremendous feedback and honest reviews, and both are our favorites.

So now it only depends on your needs. Puffy or Casper, make your choice.
